Bernstein & Broadway

On June 7 in the Paramount Theatre Lobby, 75 folks gathered to hear Martin Charnin share stories of West Side Story & Leonard Bernstein as part of Seattle’s Bernstein Festival.

Martin (best known for creating ANNIE) was an original Jet & sang “Officer Krupke”--then on Broadway in 1957 & now in 2010. Another treat was Shelly Burch performing several of the landmark songs from the show as well as a recreation of the 1987 interview of the creative team from West Side—Leonard Bernstein (Martin Charnin), Jerome Robbins (Victor Pappas) Arthur Laurents (David Koch) & Stephen Sondheim (Mark Rabe).

Seattle Theatre Group & Showtunes partnered in this free event -- remembering how innovative West Side Story was in its day & still holds the lasting power on Broadway & beyond...
