On opening night, STG and our partners Broadway Across America arranged for 25 Rainier Beach High School (RBHS) students to see Dreamgirls at The Paramount Theatre. Later that week, lead cast member Chester Gregory, who brought the house down as Jimmy Early, took time out of his busy schedule to lead a discussion and Q&A with an excited bunch of RBHS students. Kudos to these wonderful young people who asked insightful questions, shared performance stories, and to one brave young man who performed an original R&B song a cappella for Chester. A perfect moment!

On Wednesday night, we invited 25 students from our partner organization, the YMCA Black Achievers Program (BAP) to see Dreamgirls. Later in the week, BAP came to the STG Admin offices for a “Careers in the Arts Workshop” with STG staff and mentors. The students took workshops in marketing, education, and artist development, and then we all trundled downstairs to the Paramount Theatre for an eye-popping backstage tour of Dreamgirls, lead by the wonderful Ray Gin (Dreamgirls Stage Mgr).

The students were all abuzz and everyone involved went home happy, excited, and inspired.
A HUGE THANK YOU to the Dreamgirls cast and crew, our partners Broadway Across America, the students of BAP and RBHS, and to everyone at STG who helped make these events happen.
We heart Dreamgirls!
