Spectrum Dance Blog, Part 3

Today is the last day in the studio for the Spectrum dancers this
season. We will have an hour of rehearsal with Sandra Neels for
Landrover and an hour of notes with Donald. Then it will be time to
head to The Moore for tech rehearsal. The tech run thru will be in
costume and makeup so that photos can be taken.

Spectrum Dancer Blog, Part 2

Update from inside the Spectrum Dance Theater rehearsals:

The company ran the full program in order yesterday with the first
cast (both Landrover & Statements of nameless root are double cast) as
well as running the second cast of Landrover.

Donald talked with the dancers for a while at the end of the rehearsal
day about what he sees as one of the major challenges of the show at
this point. His view is that now that we have mastered (for the most
part) the choreography and have built up enough stamina to keep from
passing out during a run (no small feat for the members of the company
who have been cast in all three of the pieces on the program) that the
focus for the next few days will be to find what is distinct
technically, stylistically and dramatically about all three pieces. As
well as finding the thru line that connects them all...

Give Back This Earth Day

Happy Earth Day everyone!

It's a great day to think about our community and how we all can give something back, no matter how much we have to begin with -

Take a minute today to visit the White House's Delivering on Change website and share your experiences with volunteering - or if you're still looking for the best way to help out in your neighborhood, you can search right then and there.

Then start by smiling at a stranger - it does wonders :)

Spectrum Dance Blog, Part 1

Tuesday morning April 21st

The countdown to Spectrum Dance Theater's Icono-Clan performances
begins. The dancers will be back in the studio today after a much
needed three day weekend. We will be spending today, Wednesday and
part of Thursday rehearsing at our studios on Lake Washington. Then
we will move downtown to The Moore Theatre on Thursday evening to
begin technical and dress rehearsals.

In preparation for this performance we had the opportunity to work
with Sandra Neels (from the Merce Cunningham company) and with Gus
Solomons Jr as well as Mr. Byrd. Sandra was with us for six days
setting the Merce Cunningham piece "Landrover" and coaching the
company in the Cunningham style. She will be returning on Thursday
to assist with spacing at the Moore and be staying thru the
performances. Gus spent a total of five days working with us on his
style after we had learned his piece, "Statements of nameless rootsII"
off of video the week prior and will also be returning to help put his
piece on the stage.
